Seriously though - I’m not just saying that. It brings my 2 favorite things together - photoshoots and community - for a fun chat while I photograph a muse in the studio. Seeing them now, in a different headspace, it makes me a little sad to think about. How unfair and unkind I was to myself that day. The pictures are the exact same. I didn’t retake them. Someone didn’t sneak in and photoshop away my insecurities. I was feeling frustrated [read hormones] with my body that day. I felt sluggish and bloated and just not like myself. I ached all over and PMS was hitting my emotions hard. Now I see art, strength, and love. So I wrote an apology letter to my body from my soul and we became best friends as a result.

I absolutely loved hearing how much she loved the outcome of these photos and that it wasn’t a set she normally would have picked for herself! Kandra considers her style to lean more edgy and I think we nailed it even in this otherwise “zen zone.”

There are many misconceptions about boudoir and sometimes inquiring clients get sticker shock when I send them my pricing. I get it. We see posts all the time of our local photographer offering family sessions for as little as $100. So when I send you my price guide and there are 4 numbers before the decimal - it's shocking. However, I find that usually sticker shock comes from clients not being fully educated on what a boudoir session entails.
Read MoreSara Starchild and Christina Meerloo taught a VERY important class in Nashville with The Boudoir Class last fall on photographing BDSM and KINK themes that went beyond just cool poses with bondage props. The workshop covered everything from consent and safety, to the emotional nuances and importance of client prep and post care in BDSM/KINK scenarios. They covered power dynamics and of course cool poses with bondage props as one would expect. I am OBSESSED with the workshop location they selected for this class! We had cages to play in, a furry red room, and a glam bedroom complete with a mirrored vanity that gave us SO MANY different looks!

The first type of client has no idea how they want their boudoir experience to look they just know they are excited [and nervous] to come in and have the experience! The second type of client is just as excited about the creative planning process as they are the experience itself. The last client is somewhere in between. Technically there’s a 4th type of client. This is their 5th time in the studio and at this point we are just mixing sets up to get them something they haven’t done before.
